How To Become a Christian

0. God created us to have a loving relationship with Him.

“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”  John 3:16

God created us to know Him and to enjoy Him forever.

0. The problem is that the love relationship has been broken and that is called sin.

“All have sinned and fall short of God’s glorious ideal.”  Romans 3:23

Sin is the root cause of all our problems in every area of our lives.

0. The mending of the broken love relationship has been accomplished by Jesus Christ.

Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth and the life.  No one comes to the Father, except through me.”  John 14:6

            Jesus has already taken care of your sin problem and He did it on the cross.  You

            can not make up for your sin by being good, religious, sincere or by changing bad

            habits.

0. God is pursuing a love relationship with you that is real and personal.  Here is how you begin that relationship.

• You must admit that God has not been first place in your life and ask Him to forgive your sins.

“If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and cleanse us from every wrong.”  I John 1:9

• You must believe that Jesus is God’s Son, died on the cross for your sin, and is alive today.

“If you confess that Jesus is your Lord, and you believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.”  Romans 10:9

• Call or ask Jesus Christ to come into your life as your Lord.

“Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”

 Romans 10:13

“To all who receive Him, to those who believe in His name, He gives the right to become children of God.”  John 1:12

0. If you have made that decision, great!  If  you haven’t, you can do so right now.  Believe in His power to forgive.  Receive Jesus into your heart and life as Lord.  By faith you can become a Child of God.

Here is a simple prayer that will help you confirm your commitment to God:

“Dear God, thank you for loving me and wanting a relationship with me.  I realize my sin has broken our relationship.  Forgive me.  I now see that Jesus died for my sin and I believe He is alive today.  Please come into my life, Lord Jesus, and make me a new person right now.  Thank you for saving me.  In Jesus’ name I pray.  Amen.”

Welcome to the family of God!  Based on what God has said in His word, you are now His child and our fellow believer in the faith.  You are God’s and God is yours forever.

“I write these things to you who believer in the name of the Son of God so that you may know that you have eternal life.”  I John 5:13
